Vall de Bóquer
We have rarely been hiking because it was hard to pull the kids through the stretch. But recently, after K has gotten older and especially after T is all good after his knee injury, we have been looking at hiking more.
Our friends aboard Esperanza (Five Go Sailing) told us about a beautiful and short hike to the north corner of Mallorca.
Starting from Pollenca, we followed the rugged paths through the Boquer Valley towards Cala Boquer. With the steep mountains on each side, the valley acts like a wind tunnel, pushing the smallest ocean breeze through its terrain, making it doable in the warm summer heat.
We left the boat as early as possible and started climbing the paths towards the north shore. At the entrance of the valley, we found an old abandoned farmhouse with small lion statues in its garden. It quickly became a story for the kids that in the valley we were about to enter, there lives a rare dwarf lion that hunts for all the small wild goats that live there.
All through the valley, the kids were scouting for small mountain lions, hoping to spot one of the almost extinct creatures.
They never spotted one, but we saw several goats, lizards, and very big birds of prey. Exactly what type of eagles they were, we are not sure, but seeing them glide along the mountainsides was very majestic.
After around a 3 km hike, we reached the end of the valley where the view of the ocean revealed itself to us. We never went all the way to the ocean; we could feel that adding another kilometer to the hike was not something the kids were up for.
In a few days, we will leave Pollenca and set sail towards Menorca, spending a few weeks jumping from ''Cala'' to ''Cala'' before we sail back to Portocolom for a short while.
